Discovering Panama's Charming Old Town : Casco Viejo
Old churches found in Casco Viejo ( the older area of Panama City ) are full of beautiful stained glass windows | The church of San Felipe Neri is one of the colonial churches in Casco Viejo. It was built after the relocation of the city to the site of Ancon and after the taking, burning and looting of Old Panama by the pirate Henry Morgan in 1671. The church was completely consumed with the fire of 1737. It was repaired but by 1756 another fire destroyed it . In both fires only its thick walls and the colonial roof remained. The Guna Yala tribe is located mostly in the San Blas islands. These indigenous people are quite small. Some of the women travel to Casco Viejo in Panama City to sell their hand made molas.
