It had to close during tha War of Independence then in 1816 it was struck by lightening and in the Carlist Wars it was a military warehouse.Because of all these things it was not open to worship in the following periods of years 1808-1814, 1835-1841 and 1873-1879.

The Guggenheim Spider named Maman is a monumental steel spider , almost 9 meters tall, by Louise Bourgeois. The creature has a sac containing 10 marble eggs located at its underbelly and its abdomen and thorax are made of ribbed bronze. The French word "maman" translates as mom or mommy, the apellation a child uses for his or her mother. Despite its fearsome appearance, the spider is a loving tribute to Bourgeois's mother, who passed away when she was 21 years old and who was a tapestry maker. It aims to reflect  the powerful impact  the artist's mother left on her, and alludes to her mother's strength, with metaphors of spinning, weaving, nurture and protection.

Bilbao City Hall

Bilbao City Hall occupies the site of the old San Agustin convent which was destroyed during the First Carlist War. It was built in the late nineteenth century (1882) by the municipal arhitect Joaquin Rucoba. Built in the French Second Empire style, the building is noted for its horizontal, elegant and round lines, whose main facade features sculptures by Fiat and the team composing Garamendi, Basterra and Larrea. The luxurious interiors combine the Neo-Renaissance inspiration of the assembly hall, the lobby or the staircase with the exquisite Neo-Arab style of the reception room, the work of Jose Soler, a local craftsman.

The Matter of Time - Richard Serra - Inside the Guggenheim

The Matter of Time is Richard Serra's most complete work on the physicality of space and the nature of sculpture. The entirety of the room is part of the sculptural field. The artist purposefully organizes the work to move the viewer through it and its surrounding space. The passages of space are distinctly different-----narrow and wide, compressed and elongated, modest and towering---and always unanticipated.

39 Picasso Little Girl Jumping Rope-topaz

When you look at Little Girl Jumping Rope you can see that she is, like many of Picasso's other early 1950's assemblages, comprised from a wonderful array of found or foraged or scavenged objects. His partner at the time, Francois Gilot, recalled that on his daily walks to the studio, he would often stop to go through trash bins looking for materials to include in his works. And so among his finds that made it into Little Girl Jumping Rope, you can see, for instance, that her torso is comprised of a basket and her face is made from a discarded, oval-shaped chocolate box. With this sculpture, Picasso came close to accomplishing the impossible. He managed to make a sculpture that almost doesn't touch the ground and that defies gravity.
