A tiny street commonly referred to as the narrowest street in Prague is so narrow that traffic lights had to be installed. It is too narrow for two people to pass each other so the traffic must be organized. |

The Certovka, in English Devil's Canal or sometimes referred to as Little Prague Venice was built in the 12th century. It takes its water from the Vlatava and after 740 meters it flows back into the same river. There are several medieval mills along its course. |

The Old Town Bridge Tower is one of the most beautiful Gothic gateways in the world. It guards the entrance to the St Charles Bridge and was built by Emperor Charles lV according to designs by Petr Parler in the mid 14th century. The gate was also conceived as a symbolic victory arch through which Czech kings passed on their coronation procession. | The Lesser Old Town Bridge Tower guards the other end of the St Charles Bridge, | The St Charles Bridge is a medieval stone arch bridge that spans the Vlatava . Its construction started in 1357 and completed in the early 15th century. It was the only means of crossing the Vlatava River until 1841. The Old Town Square dates from the 12th century and started life as the central marketplace at the center of European trade routes for Prague. Over the centuries buildings of Romanesque, Baroque and Gothic styles were erected bringing with them stories of wealthy merchants and political intrigue. |

To the people of Bohemia and other regions around Prague, Jan Hus became a symbol of dissidence and strength against oppressive regimes. He opposed church control by the Vatican which gave strength to those who opposed control of Czech lands by the Habsburgs in the 19th century. When Czechoslovakia was under Communist rule sitting at the feet of the Jon Hus Memorial became a way of quietly expressing one's opinion and opposition to the Communist rule. |

St Francis of Assisi church with its green dome dominates the skyline of Old Town. The history of this place of worship dates back to 1252 but the building that we see today was erected in the 1680's and was influenced by Baroque architecture. The church organ that was made in 1702 is one of the oldest in Europe. |

Rabbi Loew was an important Talmudic scholar, Jewish mystic, mathematician, astronomer and philosopher who served as the leading rabbi in Prague in Bohemia. |

The Golz-Kinsky Palace in Old Town Square is now part of the National Art Museums. It is a superb example of late baroque architecture. In its courtyard Hermann Kafka had his haberdasher's shop, and the palace housed its German school where his son Franz received his secondary education. In 1843, Bertha von Suttner, countess Kinsky, was born here. She was a notable pacifist and persuaded Alfred Nobel to create the Peace Prize, of which she was the first recipient in 1905. |

The Vlatava river is 430.3 kilometres (267.4 miles) and drains an area of 28,090 kilometres (10,850 square miles) in size. Over half of Bohemia and about a third of the territory of the entire Czech Republic. It is crossed by eighteen bridges with the St Charles Bridge being one of them. |
